A Trip in the Past in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar, Bataan

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bataan is sure beautiful to be the new backdrop of your new profile picture or Instagram post but this place is more than what a camera can capture. What you’ll see here is beyond what you’ve studied in your history books in school. I’ve used to see houses to be just infrastructure but what I didn’t know is that houses, like books, can tell stories.

GOING TO LAS CASAS

The drive to Bagac, Bataan is 3-4 hours and must be extra careful because the path is steep and zigzag. I was surprised that their basic rate is already 999 pesos from the 600 pesos last year. The 999 pesos entrance entitles you to the amenities such as the beach and pool, welcome drink, a wet towel, and a walking tour. I advised you to go early if you’ll avail the day tour package so you’ll be able to enjoy the pool and beach after the walking tour. The church inside also holds masses every Sunday.

Las Casas will make you fall in love with her that you can’t turn off your camera. But please despite all the triggered photography lust, join the 1-hour walk tour. They offer it every hour with the starting point in the reception area. I promise you that it’s not like your HEKASI lecture in school. Our tour guide is witty and approachable and he interacts with us. It is also on this tour that you’ll learn the different TRUE stories of the houses they restore. It’s quite informative but more entertaining.

Las Casas doesn’t just offer houses with its own tales. They also have their own restaurant and bakery for your tummy. In Fotografia de la Escolta, you can have your photos taken with our traditional clothes. And my personal favorite is the game room that offers different entertainment like billiards, darts & chess. A wedding just finished the night before we got here and some of their designs are still not removed. It’s actually a nice place to get married.

Walking along the cobblestone street, with caruajes and houses older than you, made me nostalgic and intrigued about the life in the 19th century. I may not know the answer but Las Casas surely did made feel I lived back then, minus the Spaniards of course.

The place is continually expanding and I would like to come back someday to experience their hotel packages.
