Unleashing our archer selves in Sagittarium for 99 pesos!

Have you ever wondered how does Katniss Everdeen felt when she goes shooting arrows and making a bull’s eye? I’ve always thought how cool or sophisticated it is to be an archer. Katniss and Merida make it look like it. I’ve always wanted to try but I don’t know where and too shy because I know nothing about archery. Good thing, I have the best boyfriend, surprising me with an archery date in Sagittarium Archery Range.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Sagittarium is located 4th Floor A&A Building, Scout Borromeo Street, South Triangle, Quezon City. It is totally in Waze so you can do that. The building looks like a residential building but it has a large sign outside saying Sagittarium so keep an eye on that!

September promo

If you haven’t heard, they offer a first-timer promo for the whole month of September! For an affordable 99 pesos, you can be Katniss Everdeen or Oliver Queen wannabes. It is inclusive of 15 arrows, target paper, equipment rental, basic instructions from their trainers. It is a no reservation but first come first-served basis.

Sagittarium is an indoor archery range with 11 lanes. The first thing you need to do is read the safety range rules at the entrance. It may be a cool activity but still, a bow and arrow is a deadly weapon. Number one safety rule is always to keep your arrows pointed towards the target. In the range, they have three whistle commands that must be followed:

2 whistles blasts: From the waiting area, proceed to the shooting line and hold on proper posture
1 whistle blast: Load your bow and arrow, aim and start shooting
3 whistles blasts: Stop shooting. Hang your bow and retrieve your arrows from the target board.
4 or more whistle blasts: ceasefire, stop or emergency.. archers need to be on the safe zone or waiting line.

In the promo which is solely made for newbies, the target boards are fixed in 5 meters and the bows are bigger with stabilizers and pin sights. The trainers will teach you the proper posture and the right hands and feet position. After that, you just have to remember to breathe, aim then let go.

At first, I’m actually nervous and excited at the same time. I don’t want to make a fool out of myself of having arrows on the floor instead of the target. Turns out, it’s easy and fun. The arrows are already stabilized so you just have to practice your focus and accuracy. I didn’t even expect my first arrow to land inside the circle. But I did it so yay! And it’s a good exercise for your back as well.

You can only load an arrow in the shooting line

I enjoyed archery given that I’m extra bitchy and enduring a headache due to work that day. It’s a good activity to release your rage and stress, btw. (haha!) But seriously speaking, even I only got 15 arrows, I had so much fun proving myself that I’m one Katniss Everdeen. (NOT! I’m so long away to being one) Nevertheless, it’s a new experience and skill learned. I hope that they make the 99 pesos promo a regular rate and I’ll surely be one happy regular.

  • This looks so fun! I really suck at sports so I’m always reluctant to try out new things but with that introductory promo rate, what do I have to lose? Lol. Thanks for blogging about this! Will definitely put this on my bucket list. <3

  • I rechecked and yes, you did mention Oliver Queen and you never once mentioned the local wannabe. HAHAHA! If I were to write this post, I would have use Oliver rather than Katniss. Don’t get me wrong though, I loved that movie too. Good job, Bea. 15 shots… at least hindi naman nangalay ang kamay mo. 99 bucks sounds so affordable especially for those who would like to try at least once. Who knows, perhaps a career in archery might be discovered.

      • Bea,

For the sake of argument, who is the better archer? Oliver can shoot ropes and thin wires on the go. Can Katniss do that? She hesitates more often than not, doesn’t she? Did you have to slap water before getting shooting arrows? LOL!

  • I’ve always wanted to try this! But I haven’t yet. I like the Hunger Games as well as Arrow haha. And even before that, archery somehow intruiged me. Your article reminds me on that, now I will do some research to see if I do this close to home as well!

  • My bf made me try archery too, during a festival in the city where he lives. It was quite an experience! Felt like Katniss, Merida, Robin Hood… haha I have to say that 99 pesos is super cheap for an archery session! Wish they have promos like that here. I also wanted to try shooting, my bf used to own a hunting gun (like hunt in the woods), but after watching videos of accidents in shooting studios, I changed my mind.

  • I hope that this will be extended here in the province. I always think that there were only a few establishments here in the province that offers entertainment / sport like this. But then again, I know we have an archery area here somewhere in Poracay and transportation is difficult if you don’t have your own wheels. I hope it is something reachable for the market.

  • Something I never thought of was indoor archery lanes. I am from the rural farm area in the U.S. and have been an avid bow hunter all of my life. I guess we have golf and gun ranges, then why not the same thing for archery. A great way to keep up with practice.

  • This is so cool! Archery is very interesting. Even my daughter likes it and pretends to be an archer sometimes. If this place is near our area, I would surely try it! But thank you for sure. If by chance, we go to Manila, I will tell my husband to drop by QC for this!

  • This looks fun! It is the first time that I heard of an archery range in the metro. Even for once, I want to feel like Katniss just like you. I wonder if they would put up promos like that often. A must try!

  • I thought at first that this is Gandiva until I read the post. So there is another archery place but why does it have to be so far away from me huhu… I remember having fun in my first archery experience in Gandiva. There’s just something about this sport that is quite fulfilling. I’d love to try Saggitarium too (and I like the name!), and for only 99 pesos for first-timers, why not? I might just make the trip down there.
